On Thursday 13th October, a group of 12 of our children took part in an art’s project sponsored by East Midland Railway. An artist, Mel Langton, visited school and the children created their own railway artwork. This work will eventually be shown at Great Coates Station and will make up a large artwork at Nottingham Station. We can’t wait for the final piece to be shown.
Our team of student ambassadors were very busy at the end of last half term delivering certificates to all the children who had been nominated by their teachers for a school values award. The school value this term was ‘Manners’. Well done to all of the children who received an award.

Over the summer holidays, four of our children took part in the Humberside Police Lifestyle Challenge. They raised £840 for the Grimsby Food Kitchen and Women’s Aid by walking across the Humber Bridge and holding a charity night at The Valiant Pub. During the charity night there was bingo, a name card and a cake stall. They also carried out a litter pick around the Willows Estate.
We are delighted to announce the team have now been nominated for the local Youth Acknowledgement Awards. This is a charity event run by St Andrew’s Hospice, to be held at Grimsby Central Hall on November 25th. Tickets for the event are on sale at £5. Details of how to get tickets will be announced shortly.
The school are incredibly proud of our four fund raisers and we can’t wait to celebrate with them on the night.
On Tuesday 22nd June, A team of Year 5 and 6 children visited Healing Secondary School, with Mrs Martin and Miss Jebson, for an inter school rounders tournament against six other schools. The team played incredibly well. They didn’t lose a match all afternoon and after a thrilling final against Woodlands School they won. We are incredibly proud. Once again the children were perfectly well-behaved and we are incredibly proud of them.
On Thursday 9th June, the children took part in Empathy Day an initiative led by The Empathy Lab. During the day, the children learnt about how to become a more empathetic person e.g. being a good listener and putting themselves in other people’s shoes. They did this through reading a range of books about feelings and relationships.
Once again the children have made us really proud with their thoughtfulness and consideration of each other when discussing their feelings. We have had a phenomenal response on Twitter, from The Empathy Lab and authors of the books we used, who were blown away with our work on the day.
Back in February, our Year 5 children took part in the Smallpiece Trust and RAF Glider Challenge. This was a virtual lesson where the children learnt about aerodynamics and forces and were introduced to the world of engineering. The pupils had a wonderful morning designing, constructing and testing rockets. They submitted a rocket design to the Glider challenge and won first prize of £150 for the school.
