Waddles Nursery

Waddles Nursery

Waddles Nursery is for children aged 3 and 4 and is set within the grounds of Great Coates Primary School. It is a purpose built nursery unit and has allocation for 52 children in both morning and afternoon sessions.

We offer flexible funded places for both 15 and 30 hours as well as a breakfast club which starts at 8am. In addition, for those children who would like to attend nursery for additional sessions, we offer top up sessions that can be booked termly.

We offer many opportunities to learn beyond the classroom including sessions in the school’s kitchen, educational visits and themed days.

Waddles nursery is part of Great Coates Primary School and Harbour Learning Trust which gives us the opportunity to work and share experiences within schools and with other schools and the wider community.

We are flexible with the hours you can bring your child to nursery and offer full days, half days, mornings or afternoons. If your child stays for a full day there is the option of a cooked lunch from the school canteen. Once days are agreed with the nursery team, these days can be changed termly.

Our uniform is a green jumper, different to the school jumper which can be obtained from Uniform Direct.

Learning

Both the indoor and outdoor provision at Waddles Nursery have been specifically designed to meet the needs of developing children from three years and above. We follow the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum set out by the government and plan from children’s own interests, this enables learning to be bespoke whilst developing natural curiosity.

The Early Years Foundation stage has been revised for September 2021, it focuses on three prime areas of learning:

  • Personal, social and emotional development – Self regulation, managing self and building relationships
  • Communication and language – Listening, attention and understanding and speaking
  • Physical development – Gross motor and fine motor skills.

And four specific areas of learning:

  • Literacy – Comprehension, word reading and writing
  • Maths – Number and numerical patterns
  • Understanding the world – Past and present, people cultures and communities and the natural world.
  • Expressive arts and design – Creating with materials, being imaginative and expressive.

These areas of learning are carefully enhanced each week to support children’s developing skills and enquiring minds as well as recognising and supporting individual learning styles through the characteristics of effective learning.

Assessment

The adults in Nursery continually assess the children throughout the year. From the assessments we ensure that the planning is being completed at a level that is appropriate to the individual child’s stage of learning. We also share information with you of your children’s progress at parent’s evenings.

Relationships with parents

Parents are a fundamental part of the children’s development. We share information about pupil’s learning on the Class Dojo App.  Parents can share with school what the children do at home and they can see what they are achieving at school. We invite the parents to come to visit nursery for special events. We are available at the start and end of every session to discuss your child with you and welcome parent’s input and support.

If you wish to take up a place please complete the nursery admission form below. For more information on funding, hours and anything else please contact the school office and we will get back to you promptly.
