We were absolutely blown away with our pupils who got through to the final round of our school talent show on Friday 11th July. The acts were incredible. We had singers, dancers, a drummer, a guitarist, a pianist, a glockenspeil group, a horse riding acrobat, magicians and comedians. It really was a majestic dispay of the talent in our school and every single child who performed impressed the judges. We did decide on some incredible winners but it was very difficult to choose from the array of talent on the stage. Thank you to all of the pupils for the hours of practice you put in.

On Wednesday 9th July, the reception children took part in the Foundation Stage Graduation. Many parents attended and the children sang beautifully and told everyone all about their learning in the Foundation Stage. We were all so proud of them and impressed with their performance on the stage. Thank you to all the parents that attended.

Our Year 5s had a special day on Monday 7th July, with their Graduation Ceremony. Many parents attended and the pupils performed songs and readings to celebrate them moving from Year 5 to Year 6 and gaining their purple jumpers. The purple jumpers give the pupils a sense of pride and reponsibilty as the eldest year group in the school. Thank you to all the parents who attended. Please watch a video of the pupils singing and signing on Twitter.

The summer term has seen the children take part in many sports events. On Tuesday 6th May, a group of year 3 and 4 children took part in the Primary Cricket Festival. They had a great time learning the skills involved in playing cricket.
On the 8th May, we took part in the Year 3 and 4 Quad Kids Athletics tournament. The children really persevered throughout the day and showed excellent determination. They all did really well in the running, jumping and throwing athletics events.
On 22nd May, our year 5 and 6 athletics team took part in their Quad Kids tournament. They did incredibly well and came 8th out of 17 schools.
On Tuesday 24th June, ten of our pupils entered the Primary Outdoor Adventurous Activities event. They had a great afternoon of map reading and team work activities.
All of the pupils who entered these events were a credit to the school and took part with enthusiasm and grit.

June saw two fantastic residential visits at Great Coates School.
We had our first ever Year 2 and 3 residential visit to Rand Farm. The children took part in a miriad of activities that happen on a Farm. The trouble was trying to fit it all in in two days. They mucked out the animals and fed them, bottle fed calves, held day old chicks, went on a tractor ride, dug up carrots, fed carrots to horses, made carrot cake and sausages and played on the adventure playground! No wonder the children were exhausted when they came back. The staff had a great time and can’t wait to go again next year.
We also took our year 6 children to PGL in June. The residential visit was a great success. The children really pushed themselves to do the range of adventurous activities on offer including abseiling, archery, rock climbing and the aquapark. They all had a fabulous time and the behaviour of the group of children was excellent.
Below are some photographs from the trips. Look out for more on our end of term newsletter.

We all took part in Empathy Festival for two weeks in June. The children read books and poems, joined in with online zoom events, made empathy glasses, discussed their feelings, made book marks and completed artwork. The schools in Harbour Learning Trust met up to share their ideas about empathy. We even won a competition for all of our empathy work. Look at the gallery of immages below to see the amazing things the children did.

Year 4 and 5 were treated to a visit from Nurture Nature last week, with all Year 4, 5 and 6 pupils taking part in Forest Schools activities. The pupils took part in den building, making bug hotels and made wooden pendants from logs.

At Great Coates, we are committed to ensuring all of our pupils have a love of reading. The school has been awarded the Bronze Lincolnshire Reading Pledge. To get the award the school needed to demonstrate a strong commitment to reading for pleasure and provide a supportive environment for developing confident and enthusiastic readers.
